Mt. Batulao and the Good Samaritans

After my shift on Saturday November 11, 2011, the usual suspects (Ian and I) and some new peeps he introduced me to (yay, more climbing/trekking buddies!) went on a day hike to Mt Batulao in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Views while trekking up to the summit literally took my breath away

view from one of our rest stops

we had to pass 10 peaks before the real summit

taken before reaching peak 9

when we reached the summit, it took me 5 minutes to absorb in the view. 360 degree views of beautiful mountain ranges and slopes. Fell in love with the mountain 🙂

need I say more?

And the good Samaritans story happened while we were waiting for a bus going back to Manila. The last bus left at 9pm (we thought that buses around that area were 24hrs available – lesson learned, now we know it doesn’t) and we reached the jump-off around 9:30pm so we were thinking of going to the nearest town to take a jeep to Cavite – the problem was, we don’t have any means of transportation from where we’re at to Tagaytay where we could take the jeep to Cavite. Went to a police outpost and asked for help/directions how we can travel to the next town (I forgot the officer’s name and I forgot to take his picture – my bad – was sooo tired and sleepy already). One of us thought of hitchhiking. Me, the fan of horror movies, quipped – Oh, didn’t you know that some of the hikers gets killed from hitchhiking? You never know you’ll be hitchhiking with a serial killer – I know, I know…that never happens here (oh well, I blame it on Criminal Minds… :-D)

It just so happened that cargo trucks pass and stop by this route, literally, since they have to present permits (or I thought that was it) when they go through checkpoints. The officer asked the driver’s companion to take us to the next town and drop us off to where the jeep terminal was located. Thus, my first hitchhiking experience :-). We thanked the policeman and the people at the cargo truck. Took 2 jeepney rides, one to SM Bacoor and another one to Baclaran where I took the cab home.

What made this trip different from all of my other climbs? Found the mountain that I will include my in 10 best list and my faith in people just got restored and I’m definitely including them in my prayers 🙂
