Mt Marami: Pico de Loro’s Sequel

As described by Pinoy Mountaineer “If Pico de Loro were a blockbuster movie, its sequel would be Mt. Marami.”

Both mountains are set in Maragondon, Cavite and they both have 2 pillars surging up the slopes. Summit of Mt. Marami is composed of massive rocky pillars while Pico’s shaped like a parrot’s beak.

We started trekking late Saturday afternoon 4:30pm on February 16. I had no sleep from the earlier night (I had work on Friday night which ends on Saturday morning at 6am, went home to pack and take a shower before traveling to Cavite to meet my friend who invited me on this climb), did not eat a full meal properly before leaving home…hence, I took lots of pauses to catch my breath on ascending trails (while vowing not to be in this kind of situation again. I promised that on my next climb, I will be both mentally and physically prepared as my earlier climbs) and I noticed I get tired too easily.

We reached Campsite 1 at around 8pm or 830pm (I was too wasted to notice) and started setting up camp. Started taking pictures, while others cooked our dinner, joked around with the kids who served as our guide and another group’s guide who camped across from our group.

I slept after dinner and taking shots of Emperador Light. Too tired to stay up and mingle with the rest of the group.

Next morning, woke up to the sounds of others who woke up ahead of me. And while they were taking pictures, I boiled water for coffee (the usual me could not function well without caffeine). Two of us decided to stay at the camp while others went to the summit. I wanted to go but I was still packing and I didn’t want them to wait for me until I’m done. So, I stayed behind…found a shaded spot and used my bag as a pillow, listened to music while the other guy Jeff who opted not to go, slept in their still-not-packed-tent.

After 2 hours they were back and we started our trek back to the jump-off. And trail was dry and scorching hot (forgot to bring my hat, oh well). Reached jump-off around 2pm, ate pancit canton before taking a shower and traveling back to Manila.
