Bohol 2018

When my husband and I visited the Philippines in November 2018, we did a quick trip to Bohol by land. We purposely did not book flights because I wasn’t certain what the weather would be like. November is usually the month where strong typhoons hit the Philippines and I did not want to take a risk booking something and then ending up cancelling. Because, hassle.

We left pretty early in Calbiga. We were playing it by ear and I wasn’t stressing if we make it to Bohol by the same day, but we did! We only had backpacks so it was a breeze to maneuver through lines, crowds and vehicle transfers.

We took a van from Calbiga to Tacloban then to Ormoc. I managed to convince one of my friends to join us and my younger brother Gio tagged along as well. We took the fast ferry to Ormoc and from Ormoc we took another fast ferry to Tagbilaran and we were in Bohol by 8pm-ish. We met a nice and helpful local who took us around looking for an affordable accommodation for the night and take us on a tour the next day.

Next day’s tour started with the Tarsier Sanctuary:

Then we went to Chocolate Hills next…

Visited the man-made forest:

The butterfly sanctuary:

We also made a quick trip to the church and by afternoon, we had found another place to stay in Panglao and just walking distance to Alona Beach.

Sunset was amazing!

Then we walked over to Hennan’s for drinks and cocktails.

Next day, we decided to head home instead of doing the island hopping since there was a typhoon entering the Philippine area towards where Bohol is and we did not want to get stranded.

Also we saw this at the fast ferry terminal:

Bought one thinking I’ll have the guts to try it later but didn’t haha.

Ormoc from a distance:

It was still sunny by the time we arrived in Ormoc but as we were travelling to Tacloban by van it started to rain, hard.

Had a quick bite before heading home to Calbiga.

What I got from that trip: I fulfilled a promise to take hubby there.

What hubby got from the trip: a sore bum from sitting with all that land travel 😂
