2012: Bantakay Cave and Falls

I got invited to go along last-minute, is supposedly a day hike but turned into an overnight trip.

We left Manila around 6AM on March 24 for Lucena City, hopped into another bus for Brgy Catalina in Atimonan, Quezon (jump-off at the barangay captain’s house). Registered (no fee as of March 24, 2012), secured our guide and started trekking for the caves. It was scorching hot, sometimes no breeze to cool you down, slippery (our guide said it rained for 4 days straight) and plenty of mud on the trail.

After 2 hours of walking, scrambling on root trees, rocks and God-knows-what, we came upon a spring-like mini falls which indicates the Bantakay Cave entrance.

I stayed outside the cave taking pictures of views while the rest of the group went inside to check out if they could explore further (water was too high for exploring)

Then we trekked for about 20 minutes towards the falls and campsite.

first thing you will see while crossing some rocks is this 🙂

We just dropped our bags at the campsite, no one else trekked and visited the place that day so we had the place pretty much to ourselves (yay!), then we started exploring the area.

Need I say more? 🙂

We set up camp, cooked dinner, tagay shempre – di mawawala yun and talked.

It rained hard around 1:30 Sunday morning. After we had breakfast and packed up, we took an hour to enjoy the falls before trekking back.

Water was cool but not cold. It rained while we were trekking back which was good. I hate it when it’s scorching hot. Drains my energy fast. Took showers at Kap’s house and went back to Manila.

Pictures outside the cave and at the campsite was mine. The rest of the pictures I grabbed from Rainier Espera Dumbrique. You may contact Onith Marcaida thru Onith’s Adventours for tour schedules.
